These features make it possible for you to access and use our website no matter which country you live in, which language you speak, or the operating system you use. 

Microsoft Edge: Read Aloud

Preferred Browser

Option 1: The Master Key (Fastest)

  • Windows: Press Ctrl + Shift + U

  • Mac: Press Command (⌘) + Shift + U

  • The narration will begin immediately.

Option 2: Point and Click (Universal)

Use this method if your keyboard layout is different or if the shortcut is unavailable:

  1. Double-click any word to highlight it.

  2. Right-click that word to open the menu.

  3. Select "More tools" and then click "Read aloud from here."

Google Chrome: Reading Mode

Option 1: The Master Key (Fastest)

  • Windows: Press Ctrl + Shift + S

  • Mac: Press Command (⌘) + Shift + S

  • This opens the Reading Mode panel on the right.

Option 2: Point and Click (Universal)

  1. Right-click anywhere on the page.

  2. Select "Open in reading mode."

  3. Click the Play icon on the toolbar that appears on the right side of the screen.

Global Scholar Note:

Keyboard shortcuts may vary by country or specific hardware. If a shortcut does not work, always use Option 2 (Point and Click). If your browser is set to a language other than English, these menu names will appear in your native language, but the menu order remains the same.

Steps to activate "Read aloud":

  • With your mouse, double left click on any word, then right click on it.

  • From the pop-up menu that will appear, click "More tools."

  • Then click "Read aloud from here."

After clicking "Read aloud from here," reading tools will appear centered atop of your screen with Voice options to their right.

To get contextual definitions, merely click "Ask Copilot" as shown below:

Steps to open in Reading Mode:

  • Step One - With your mouse, double left click on the word where you want the narration to begin, then right click on it.

  • Step Two - From the pop-up menu that appears, click "Open in reading mode."

  • Step Three - Click "Read aloud from here."

  • Step Four - After you click reading mode, your screen will look approximately as it does in the ​​image below. Then click on the blue "To," where we want the narration to begin (in this example).

  • Step Five: Finally, click the faint yellow caret on the toolbar on the top left below "Reading Mode," after which the narration will begin.

Note:

  • The toolbar shares the same features of the Immersive Reader native to Microsoft.

  • This feature is only on Chrome.

  • It is ideal for beginning readers and other learners such as those who may require bigger text or wider spacing between words or letters.
