Reasons PDFs are the preferred way for native English speakers to begin to learn to read

  • Reads one section (sentence or paragraph) at a time

  • Read Out Loud feature is easy to pause.

  • Ease to re-read passages.

  • Ease to jump from section to section or story to story

How to access a PDF 

  1. Open one of your PDFs and download it. Figure 1

  2. Click View to access the User Interface. Figure 2

  3. Click View again to select Page Display. Figure 3

  4. Click View a third time to activate Read Out Loud. Figure 4.

Although digitally inaudible on smartphones,  PDFs can become audible provided a parent or older sibling is available to supply the audio.  Then these PDFs can be turned into moments of stimulating interaction that is far superior to any digital interface.
